A Practical, Holistic Approach to Sustainability
Every project presents different opportunities to improve sustainability and reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. Site conditions, building age, electrification potential, equipment upgrades and future expansion all influence the best path forward.
These factors can be complex, but Mascaro’s team helps guide the process.
Mascaro has 20 LEED® professionals, including specialists with hands-on experience delivering high-performance buildings. While certification remains a valuable framework, our approach goes further. We focus on real results, especially carbon reduction and long-term performance.
We take a broad view of each facility to identify practical strategies. This includes mechanical systems, energy sources, building envelope and materials. We work with you to define clear goals and deliver a building that serves your organization efficiently and responsibly for generations.
A Longstanding Commitment to Green Building
Mascaro has supported sustainable construction practices since 1993. That work began with the Heinz Family Foundation and Office project, one of the region’s first green buildings. Our commitment continues to evolve today. Since then, our focus has expanded to include carbon reduction, high-performance construction and new building technologies.
Our dedication to sustainability extends beyond the jobsite. Mascaro founded the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation at the University of Pittsburgh. A nationally recognized research center focused on advancing sustainable engineering and green building technologies. This investment reflects our deep belief that transforming the built environment requires both practical expertise and forward-thinking research.
Mascaro is also a proud member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and an active member of the Green Building Alliance (GBA). This includes sponsorship of the Pittsburgh 2030 District, which aims to reduce energy use, water use, and carbon emissions.
