Mascaro takes a proactive, intentional approach to engaging small businesses. Our good‑faith effort isn’t just about meeting requirements, it’s about building real partnerships that last.
We work closely with owners, agencies and community/national organizations to identify qualified firms and ensure small businesses have a clear path to success on our projects. From early outreach to ongoing support, we make inclusion a priority.
Leadership in Small Business Engagement
Mascaro’s small business outreach is led by Gretchen Mummert, whose deep industry knowledge and long‑standing relationships make her a trusted resource for firms across the region. Gretchen works directly with small, diverse and veteran‑owned businesses to connect them with opportunities, navigate requirements and build lasting partnerships.
Her leadership ensures that every firm, whether new to Mascaro or a long‑time partner, receives the attention and support needed to succeed.
Mascaro is committed to strengthening the disadvantaged and small subcontractor community through targeted training, mentorship and hands-on development opportunities. In partnership with the Master Builders’ Association, Mascaro co-created the Emerging Contractor Development Program, an 8-class, 4-month initiative covering key business and construction topics such as estimating and bidding, financial management, bonding and insurance, project management, safety and marketing.
Mentor-Protégé Program
Complementing the Emerging Contractor Development Program, Mascaro entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with AR Construction to support the firm's growth through specialized training and practical experience.
Under Mascaro’s mentorship, AR Construction successfully completed renovations to the Cafe on the Corner on Shadeland Avenue, with additional opportunities planned to further develop the company’s capabilities and industry expertise.
